3:50 PM CASE STUDY: From Operational to Strategic Workforce Planning: How the Australian Federal Police is Managing Staffing Resources to Build Future Capability

The Australian Federal Police employs a mix of full time, part time and contracted employees to manage the supply and demand for their operational workforce space. With 3000 uniform staff, the AFP carefully manages this workforce to not only meet the expectations of service delivery to the public, but also to create an integrated workforce with the right culture, behaviours and talent for operations. Through better management of the operational workforce, the organisation is able to set themselves up for future business planning and capability, transforming the workforce to create a more strategic plan. In this session, Stuart will discuss:

  • Understanding how the AFP is managing supply and demand for operations and allocating talent while complying with staffing levels
  • Developing a workforce model which better manages the flexible workforce pool and moves employees to permanency to build future capability
  • Improving visual analytics and reporting for managers to have more insight into their workforce and staff information for evidence-based decision making
